Sweet Potato Quinoa Post Workout Breakfast

One of the most common misconceptions when it comes to building muscle (whether for a guy or girl) is that you need to just eat pretty much anything you want since more calories taken in than burned results in gaining weight or in this case gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat).

Unfortunately, it is not this easy.  To really effectively build any type of muscle, you need to be aware of what you’re putting into your body and why.

One of the most vital times to focus on this is right after you exercise (whether just cardio or strength training).

After you exercise, your metabolism is at the highest you can pretty much ever get it, and your muscles are literally burning off whatever nutrients you give them.

At this time, you should be taking in foods high in complex carbs and proteins.

Now there are a lot of foods out there that fall into either one of these categories.  There are a few certain ones though that really fit the bill and will help you to see results quicker.

Two of the choices that really stood out to me are sweet potatoes and quinoa.

Why not incorporate them into something easy, quick, and of course amazing?

All you are going to need is

1. 1 mashed, cooked sweet potato

2. 3/4 cup cooked quinoa (or 1/4 cup of dry cooked according to instructions).

3. cinnamon, nutmeg, and stevia (or any other sweetener) to taste

All you have to do is mix everything together in a saucepan.

Add more water to obtain desired texture.

and enjoy!

ImageIt is honestly amazing how much of a difference it makes having something good for you versus just junk food during this time.

Pair this with a whey protein shake or your favorite green monster shake (with an added scoop of whey), and you are good to go!
