Healthy Kiwi Shake

I have been so in love with making smoothies lately it is not even funny.

Why you may ask?

Well mainly because I have come up with the PERFECT recipe to showcase fruit.

My problem with most smoothie recipes is you’ll add something in and the flavor will be completely lost.

Not in this.  In this you can pick the most unique fruits and make them shine.  This is exactly what I am going to be doing with the next few recipes I post.

First victim:


Kiwi is such an amazing fruit.  It’s kid friendly, easy to take places… cute :), and of course good for you!  Not to mention the fact that it’s to die for.

Not too many people are brave enough to blend it into a smoothie though as a stand out flavor.

Especially in a recipe that’s actually really good for you.

You are going to need

1. 7 to 8 ice cubes

2. 1 scoop vanilla or flavorless protein powder

3. 1 kiwi cut into 1 inch segments


4. 1 diced, frozen banana

5. 1/4 tsp xanthan gum

Note I didn’t list any liquid.  This will depend on your blender.  I generally can get away without using any with my vitamix, but if you like a thinner smoothie or your blender isn’t great, you can add some.

Start by peeling your kiwi

I found the best way to do this is with an apple peeler


Very slowly blending the kiwi, ice, and protein powder.


Blend until it’s pretty much all combined like this


Then add in the banana and xanthan gum


continue to blend

and blend

until it looks like this


Seriously it’s like kiwi soft serve ice cream


Sooooo sooooo so good


and healthy!

Come on can it get any better? 🙂

Look out for how to use this technique with blood orange… or maybe even oh i don’t know… dragon fruit?? 🙂
