Superfood: Golden Berries

If you read my May Favorites post, then you probably know that lately I have been loving golden berries.

Now, if you were to go up to the average person and asked them what golden berries are, chances are they would have no clue.

Little do they know, they are actually classified as a superfood!

Golden berries have many different names.  Depending on where you go, they’ll either be referred to as the inca berry, aztec berry, or peruvian cherry.  Generally though, here they’ll either be called golden berries or gooseberries.

In regards to benefits, like all other super foods, they help to maintain a healthy weight.

They are also packed with antioxidants such as vitamin c, bioflavonoids, and vitamin a.  Not to mention the fact that they are high in protein!

One thing I found particularly interesting about golden berries is the fact that they can help diseases or other ailments.  Asthma being an example.  My brother actually has had asthma for his entire life, and this is the first time I have ever heard of a fruit being able to be beneficial for his symptoms.

If you are interested in trying out golden berries, I get mine from Navitas Naturals.  I have linked to where you can get them on my favorites page.

Look out for a recipe featuring these very soon!
